STRANGER TO LOVE ...continued
“Mommy, are you watching?” Gabe tapped her arm. “See that boat? Wave. The man is waving at you.”
“No, Gabe, don’t.” She tried to keep the panic from her voice. “Duck. It’s a game. Hide.” She yanked him to safety behind the rocks and studied th boat. A small motorboat idling across from her cottage was dis distant enough not to run aground, but close enough to watch her space. Hackles rose on her back. Apprehension overwhelmed her. What was it about the boat? Paranoia over the past? Or her protective instincts warning her?
“That man was looking for something. Maybe we should help.” Gabe offered from beneath her.
“Stay there.”
“Yesterday, he looked with binoculars. He must not have found it.”
“Yesterday? You saw the same boat yesterday?” She stooped beside him. “When, Gabe?” She grabbed him by the shoulders. “Why didn’t you tell me?” Gabe’s blanched expression, his wide-eyed focus rattled her motherly instincts. Take a deep breath. Don’t panic Gabe.
